Thank you for your interest in the Grosse Pointe Public School Systems Safety Town. Our mission is to equip our youngest learners with the tools they need to remain calm and safe during emergency situations. Your child will meet local police and firefighters, learn tips and tools to use in a real-life fire situation, and explore other safety topics such as how to dial 911, firearms safety, body safety awareness, learn traffic and bicycle rules, electricity and electrical safety, drug safety awareness and poison prevention, and rules for boating and water play. This one week, fun-filled program is designed so children are encouraged to keep their surroundings safe through hands on activities and exercises. For more information, feel free to contact us!

    Traffic Safety
Our Safety Town miniature village is designed to resemble a community with buildings, grass, traffic signs and lights. The children take turns riding bicycles while following basic traffic rules.

    Safety Town Fire Safety House
With the assistance of our local police and fire first responders, the children will practice escape techniques from the Fire Safety House, a two-story, child size house that fills with artificial smoke to simulate an actual fire. You can reinforce these lessons by ensuring that your home has a functioning smoke detector and by creating an escape plan with your child. We thank our local public safety officers and representatives from community organizations  for their participation in our program.

    Parent Orientation
A safety instruction meeting will take place every Monday at Barnes Early Childhood Center from 9:15-9:45am in the conference room, near door C. A local public offical  will share tips and strategies every parent needs to know to keep their children safe from preventable injuries. Join in on the discussion with other parents and ask questions. This presentation is a great resource for families!
