Third Grade Reading Legislation
-
Michigan's Third Grade Reading Law requires that students meet specific reading benchmarks by the end of third grade to ensure they are prepared for future academic success. This legislation aims to provide early intervention and support for students who may be struggling with reading, ensuring they receive the help they need to improve their literacy skills. If your child is identified as needing additional support, we will work closely with you to develop an individualized reading plan and provide resources to help your child succeed. Our goal is to ensure that every student reaches their full potential in reading and beyond.
A team of educators and administrators continue to collaborate to update our already successful local plan to be consistent with the requirements identified in the Third Grade Reading Law. The district will continue to comply with the mandated testing, keeping our instructional focus on what is best and developmentally appropriate for our students. Family involvement and understanding is a critical part of this effort.
The most important thing you can do is to set aside time each day to read together. Please connect with your building principal and/or Literacy Coach if you have any questions. We appreciate your ongoing support as partners in education.
