    Chris Amore

    Amore
    Mr. Amore graduated from Wayne State University with a B.A. in Economics and from Western Michigan University with an M.S. in Geology.  He has worked in the Nuclear power industry as a Health Services Technician and for several years as a consultant in the Environmental geology field. Mr. Amore still remains active in the environmental industry.  He has conducted wetland delineation surveys in western Michigan, peat bog volumetric studies in the thumb area of Michigan and a well head protection survey near Flint, Michigan.  Currently, he is a member of the Western Michigan Geosciences Advisory Council. Mr. Amore received his teaching certificate from Wayne State University and now teaches Earth Science and Physics at Grosse Pointe North.

    Ardis Herrold

    Ardis Herrold

    In addition to teaching science, Mrs. Herrold is the director of the Grosse Pointe Public Schools Planetarium and advisor for the Radio Astronomy Team (the RATs.) She is president emeritus of the National Earth Science Teachers Association. Her favorite hobbies include rock collecting and spending time at her personal observatory near Tucson, AZ.

    Jamie Hainer

    Ms. Hainer is a graduate from Michigan State University with a degree in science education.  This year Ms. Hainer is teaching chemistry and physics and is extremely excited to be joining such a great team at North. In addition to teaching here at North she enjoys spending time outside in anyway possible from camping to snowmobiling.

    Steve Kosmas

    Steve Kosmas
    Mr. Kosmas is an experienced chemistry teacher with 16 years at Grosse Pointe North. He attended Albion College for undergraduate, completed his graduate studies at Wayne State University and then worked in the WSU Upward Bound Program as well as served as an educator for bilingual students and English language learners. During his tenure at North, he has been very involved outside of the classroom, acting as J.V. Boys Tennis Coach, Class Advisor, Science Olympiad Coach, and Head of the Chemistry Outreach Program.

    Kristy LeeKristy Lee

    Mrs. Lee has been teaching in Grosse Pointe since 2010. She taught at Pierce Middle School and South High School before joining the staff at North High School in 2012. She is happy to call North her home. When not at school, Mrs. Lee enjoys spending time with family and is an avid runner.

    Don Pata

    Don Pata

    Mr. Pata is a native of Grosse Pointe having graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1991. From there he attended Wayne State University on an academic scholarship. Upon graduation from Wayne State, he joined the Peace Corps and taught science & math in Ghana. He began his teaching career at Grosse Pointe North in the fall of 1999 and has been teaching all levels of physics ever since.

    Originally from South Bend, Indiana, where he remained through high school, Mr. Pola graduated from Indiana University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. The following three years he served in various educational roles including, biology teacher, instructional leader, and athletic coach at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana. Mr. Pola is excited to collaborate with the talented people who make up Grosse Pointe North family to best serve the community.

    Chris Skowronski

    Mr. Skowronski has been teaching science for nine years, four of which have been at Grosse Pointe North. As a lifelong runner and one of the assistant cross country coaches, Mr. Skowronski was the race director of the S.A.V.E.-A-LIFE 5K Run/Walk. The event raised over $20,540 for charity in two years. Mr. Skowronski has been married for four years to his wonderful wife Krystyna and they have a new daughter, Anna.

    Sue Speirs
    Sue Speirs

    Mrs. Speirs’ enthusiasm for life uplifts those around her! Sue is an active member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia, where she participates in small groups, plays the flute in services, and leads adult bible classes on Sunday morning. She and her husband Mark of 27 years enjoy the blessings of each other and their adult children—Jessica and Ashley. Sue lives an active life enjoying kayaking, reading, walking, biking, and photography. She loves learning and finds joy igniting this passion in her students at Grosse Pointe North High School, where she is entering her 27th year teaching. In this photo, Sue is all smiles as she and Mark just completed their first 100K bike ride!
