• Scholastic Art Awards Annual Regional Competition

Regional Rules etc.:  Google College for Creative Studies and Scholastics Art and Writing

Uploading images of your work:  image must be no bigger than 5000x5000 and should be 300dpi (2014 rules).  If it is too big and won't upload, reduce the size of your image a bit and try again.  The bigger, the better for viewing.  Actual art size is how big it will be on the wall approximately (with or without a mat).  For photos, you must submit a print that size!  Don't over promise on printing if you can't afford to print that big or your pixel count won't give you quality at a size over 5"x7".  5"x7" is the minimum art size and 48"x48" is the max.  if it is huge, it may not be hung on the wall even if it gets a gold key!

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

To register for Senior Portfolio or Individual catagories, see Aro's web site, bottom left.

"The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a non-profit organization, is a national program that nurtures artistic talent among students in grades 7-12 by recognizing and rewarding their achievements in the visual and literary arts through the administration of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This awards program is the largest and longest-running recognition program for creative young people in this country. The awards were launched in 1923 by Scholastic, Inc., the global children's publishing and media company, to encourage, foster and reward creativity in our nation's classrooms. Each year, the Awards reach more than 12 million students in public, private and parochial schools in the United States and Canada, generating more than 250,000 entries in 25 different categories of the visual and literary arts. Varied classifications in the visual arts include the fields of painting, drawing, printmaking, design, three-dimensional art, photography, mixed media, video, film & animation, environmental design, and computer graphics.

Regional exhibitions give the students the opportunity for local recognition. Last year, participating schools from Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer, and St Clair Counties combined submitted over 6,000 pieces of artwork for consideration in two separate exhibits. Regional awards include Certificates of Merit, Silver Key and Gold Key winners. Gold Key winning artwork nominated from each region across the country is forwarded to New York for national judging. Fifteen thousand pieces from 80 regions compete for national honors. Top winning Art portfolios and Photography portfolios from each region are sent on to compete for national scholarships. National honors include National Gold Awards, National Silver Awards, National Scholarships, and cash awards. The National Gold Award winners are invited to New York City where they are honored at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall. From CCS web site, below

    Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
The College for Creative Studies sponsors the Southeastern Michigan Art Region, which receives over 4,000 works of art and almost 300 portfolios from students in Wayne and Oakland Counties. The works are adjudicated and selected for Certificates, Silver Keys and Gold Key Awards, American Vision Nominations and Best of Show Portfolios. The exhibit and ceremony are held annually at the College for Creative Studies. Gold Key work is forwarded digitally to the Alliance for national judging. From the regional competition approximately 1000 works of art are displayed in an exhibit throughout all four levels of the Walter B. Ford II Building at the College for Creative Studies, Downtown Detroit.
