    Soar Tutoring is looking for high school and middle school students to tutor reading. They are housed in Grace Community Church on Moross, just east of the I-94 service drive. There is a one hour and fifteen minute training session. Tutoring Sessions are Monday - Thursday, 4:30-5:30 and 5:30-6:30. Volunteers are needed for all sessions. They are especially interested in finding tutors who are willing to make the commitment to tutor the same student for one hour per week at the same time each week. Please contact Colleen at colleen@soartutoring.org

    Drivers Wanted!

    SOC is seeking volunteers, who may be available during the week, to transport a senior to and from their medical appointment. If you are available to drive once or twice a week, please contact Heidi at huhlig@socservices.org or (313) 649-2107. 


    Evening Greeter

    SOC is currently in need of a volunteer, who is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:15 pm to greet and direct guests as they come into SOC for the evening fitness classes and other upcoming evening events. Please contact Heidi at huhlig@socservices.org or (313) 649-2107. 



    Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed!

    Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver meals to home bound seniors throughout the Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods area. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday at 10:30 am. Currently drivers are needed to deliver every other Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. If you are not available to commit to a day, consider becoming a sub for a driver.     Help Out in the Cafe! 

    Have a few hours to spare every Monday or Friday? Enjoy interacting with seniors? SOC is in need of volunteers from 11:15 am to 1:30 pm to assist in the cafe. As a cafe volunteer, you will be teamed up with other volunteers to assist with set up, serving, and clean up at lunch, all while interacting with the seniors.     Senior Expo Event

    Several volunteers are needed to fulfill various roles at the upcoming Senior Expo held on Thursday, October 6th from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm, at Assumption Cultural Center (21800 Marter Road, St. Clair Shores). Please contact Heidi at huhlig@socservices.org or (313) 649-2107, if you are available. Most volunteer tasks include standing on your feet for long periods of time. 


    Halloween Party 

    Volunteers are needed to assist with the Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 26th at SOC.  

    Here's how you can help: 

    • 9:00 am: Volunteers area needed to assist with set up and serving the meal.
    • 11:00 am: Volunteers will be assigned a table to ensure all the needs are met at the table (ie: serving beverages and food) and will be responsible with clean up.

    Auction Items Needed

    We are in need of the following types of items for the upcoming SOC Auction. Donations are greatly appreciated. 

    • Wine
    • Gift cards to restaurants, spas, services, etc.
    • Autographed memorabilia
    • Sports event tickets -- particularly Lions, Michigan State, and Red Wings
    • Liquor
    • Home Decor items
    • New children's toys or games

    Please bring donations to SOC by October 1st. If you are unable to drop off your items contact Deb Miller at dmiller@socservices.org or (313) 882-9600. Please note that any items donated to SOC are tax deductible. 


    Do you enjoy yard work?

    Some of our seniors are in need of assistance with yard clean up, such as weeding, raking leaves, and cleaning out flower beds. This is a great project for families and groups in need of service hours! If you are able to help, contact Heidi at huhlig@socservices.org or (313) 649-2107.
