Understanding Contemporary RussiaFulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad 2010
In the summer of 2010 I traveled to Russia with eleven American teachers on a Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad through the University of Michigan. For the first three weeks of the trip, I lived with a host family in Krasnodar, a city in the North Caucasus region of Southern Russia and attended lectures and Russian language instruction at Kuban State University. In addition to formal classroom study, we took several weekend excursions to sites on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. For the final week of the trip, we traveled to Moscow, staying at the Russian State University for the Humanities. This life-changing trip allowed me a much greater understanding of historical and contemporary Russian history and culture.
