    This course is designed to help children prepare for kindergarten.  Among other activities, children work on sight word recognition, number and letter writing, counting, making patterns, and letter and number recognition.  Children must be entering kindergarten in the fall.

    Grade 4 in fall, 10:15-11:45 AM
    This course is designed to help children prepare for 3rd/4th grade. During this session children will be provided opportunities to boost their abilities in: mathematics, reading, and writing.  Students will work on improving their multiplication fluency, reading "just right" texts, and increasing their ability to communicate through writing. Instruction will be based on the results of a grade specific pretest that will be administered at the start of the summer session.

    Students will review and build basic reading and comprehension skills using leveled reading materials.  The focus of this course will primarily be systematic phonics instruction using engaging materials.  Students will review basic reading comprehension strategies to help them identify the main idea, and retell details from the story.  This course is for students struggling with reading in grades 1 – 2.  Students will be grouped with like-ability learners. When registering, you need only select the time slot you prefer. Student-teacher ratio is kept very low to maximize individualized attention.

    This course is designed for students entering 6th grade, who want to have an extra advantage this fall.  Students will be taught test taking skills, study skills, note taking skills, how to read in the content areas, and how to use graphs and charts to find information. The course will be taught by a middle school teacher who knows what middle school students need to be successful!

  • 125E Advanced Math Preparation Workshop for Grade 6 $110
     
    Grade 6 in fall, 8:30-10:00 AM
    This course is for students who are above grade level in math.  Students taking this course may already qualify for 6th grade honors math, or would like the opportunity to take (or re-take) the advanced math placement test.  Also, students who are simply interested in a math enrichment opportunity are welcome.  Students who complete this course will be given the opportunity to take (or re-take) the advanced math placement test on the last day of class, if they desire.  Enrollment in this class does not guarantee placement in an honors math course next fall.  To qualify for honors math, students must meet all the middle school advanced math placement criteria.
