     What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded, general education support program that is designed to help children reach high academic standards. It reaches approximately 12.5 million students enrolled in both public and private schools throughout the nation.  Title I funds may be used for children from preschool to high school.  Most students receiving support nationwide (65 percent) are in first through sixth grades. The subject areas most frequently targeted are reading and math.

Defer, Poupard, and Mason Elementary are Title I schools in the Grosse Pointe Public School System. The Title I programs at these schools provide individual and small group instructional support to qualifying students.
